The first international agreement to protect the world's oceans aims to create “international parks” in the high seas.

The High Seas Treaty, is a landmark agreement that creates protection for areas of the ocean that are outside national borders.

In Montreal in December 2022, almost 200 nations agreed on a framework to stop biodiversity loss, and to protect 30 percent of land and water by 2030.
